Jacoba Matapo
Jacoba Matapo is of Sāmoan Dutch heritage, born and raised in Aoteroa/New Zealand. Jacoba has vast experience in tertiary leadership within ITE programmes and is currently the Associate Dean Pasifika and Programme Leader for the Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) Pasifika specialisation at the Faculty of Education and Social Work, University of Auckland. Jacoba’s passion for Pasifika education has stemmed from personal experience as a Sāmoan (Pasifika) student and academic navigating cultural, political, and social tensions in her education journey. Her doctoral research engages Pacific philosophy in Pasifika education research drawing on postcolonial, posthuman theory and questions how Pacific indigenous knowledge as nomadic affirms an other-than-human positionality within education.
